The Huawei Mate Xs 2 folding screen smartphone has been officially announced with a powerful chip and stylus support ready to rival the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
As Samsung, Huawei are also entering the folding screen smartphone market. The foldable Huawei Mate Xs 2 is the company’s latest attempt. As the direct successor of the Huawei Mate Xs in 2020, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 offers a lighter design as well as improved specifications.

The OLED screen unfolds with a diagonal of 7.8 inches, a resolution of 2480 x 2200px and a refresh rate of 120Hz. Folded on the back, the screen shrinks to a more manageable 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2480 x 1176 px. The phone features a 10 MP selfie camera placed in the top right corner. Despite its large form factor, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 weighs just 255 grams, which is a noticeable improvement over the 300-gram Huawei Mate Xs.
The device’s screen does not wrinkle like the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
The Huawei Mate Xs 2 features a delicate dual-rotor hinge mechanism that improves durability and also leaves no creases on the screen.
Huawei says that the durability of this “super product” with the polymer-coated screen is improved thanks to the new four-layer structure. And yet, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 supports Huawei’s M-Pen 2s stylus, which allows for quick notes or drawings.
Like the Huawei Mate X and Huawei Mate Xs, the manufacturer has also equipped the Huawei Mate Xs 2 with a triple camera cluster. This system includes: 50-megapixel main camera, 13-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x + 30x optical zoom and optical image stabilization – OIS.

The foldable smartphone is equipped with Snapdragon 888 4G chip with 8/12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal memory. The Huawei Mate Xs 2 packs a 4,880mAh battery with 66W fast charging and launches Huawei HarmonyOS 2 software.
Huawei Mate Xs 2 is available in 3 colors: white, black and purple. The price of the device starts at 9,999 yuan (US$1,512 – VND 34.71 million) for the RAM 8 / 256GB ROM version and rises to 12,999 RMB (US$ 1,966 – VND 45.13 million) for the RAM 12 / ROM version. 512GB. The product will go on sale in China on May 6th.
The device has an external folding design.
When it hits shelves, the folding phone will officially face the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 in the Chinese market. It is not yet clear whether Huawei’s new products will also be sold in other markets.
The weight is also lower than its predecessor.
Along with the Mate Xs 2, Huawei also presented a model tablet new affordable price called MatePad SE. The tablet features a 10.1-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels and integrates Huawei’s Kirin 710A chip. There is a 2 MP selfie camera on the front and a 5 MP rear camera. The device comes preloaded with HarmonyOS 2 with a 5100mAh battery and supports 10W charging.
