Chinese broadcaster CCTV said the six-story building that collapsed around noon on April 29 houses a restaurant, a guest house and a cinema.
Images released by local media showed a large cloud of dust rising into the air in a street next to the scene.
So far there have been no reports of casualties, although there are reports that many people are trapped in the rubble and “A rescue operation is underway”.
CCTV said “Rescuers rushed to the scene” and “Specific victims are being investigated”.
Building collapses are not uncommon in China due to weak security standards and the corruption of the officials involved.
In January this year, an explosion suspected of causing a gas leak toppled a building in the city of Chongqing, killing more than a dozen people.
